The bail of  Md Hedait Hossain Mollah, Khulna correspondent of Bangla Tribune and Dhaka Tribune, has been extended till the police investigation report in the case, filed under the Digital Security Act, is submitted.

Khulna District Sessions Judge Mashiur Rahman Chowdhury passed the order on Tuesday.

Previously on January 14, the judge had granted him bail until January 29.

The journalist's lawyers, GM Abdur Razzak and Masum Billah, said that after reviewing the judicial hearings and papers, Judge Mashiur Rahman ordered bail extension for Hedait until the submission of the police report.

They also said that the next regular hearing of the case has been scheduled for February 28.

On January 3, the journalist was released from prison after the same court granted him bail.

On January 1, plainclothes policemen arrested Hedait in a case filed by Khulna Assistant Returning Officer and Batiaghata Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Debashish Chowdhury with Batighata police station for providing “untrue” information on the 11th general election.

In the first information report (FIR), Debashish Chowdhury wrote that despite 80% voter turnout in the Khulna 1 constituency, which encompasses Batighata and Dacope upazilas, Hedait had reported that 22,419 more votes were cast than the actual number of voters in the constituency during the general election.

In the case statement, Debashish claimed that the contents of the report were untrue.
