One gets life-term for rape

A special court on Monday convicted a man and sentenced him to life-term imprisonment for violating a college girl in 2007.

The convict was identified as Sydur Rahman, son of Sonamuddin of the Shibalaya upazila. 

The court also fined him Tk50,000.

According to the prosecution, the convict took the girl forcefully to a shop in the flood affected area of the upazila on March 9, 2007 when she went out of her home at night and raped her.

Hearing the girl’s screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her.

The victim filed the case with Shibalaya police station the following the day. 

Police submitted the charge sheet against Sydur on June 7.

After examining records and witnesses, Manikganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain handed down the verdict.
