A Kushtia court has denied bail extension to Reza Ahmed Bachchu, a BNP candidate from Kushtia 1 (Daulatpur) constituency, and sent him to jail in connection with two cases filed in September under the explosives act.

Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Arup Kumar Goswami passed the order on Wednesday when Reza appeared before the court and sought bail.

Kushtia Judge Court Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate Anup Kumar Nandi told the Dhaka Tribune that Reza Ahmed Bachchu was on an eight-week anticipatory bail from the High Court in two cases which expired on Tuesday.

After completing the bail, he surrendered to the Kushtia court on Wednesday around 12pm.

Bachchu is the son of late Ahsanul Haq Mollah, a former state minister for Post and Telecommunication.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, a case was filed with Kushtia court against a BNP candidate for Kushtia 4 constituency Syed Mehedi Ahmed Rumi under the Digital Security Act over a leaked audio clip, in which he reportedly had instructed a BNP associate organization leader to instigate violence.
