Chittagong University Assistant Professor Maidul Islam has been freed on bail from Chittagong Central Jail.
Previously, on September 24, a Chittagong court ordered the teacher be sent to jail on charges of defaming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Facebook posts.
Bulon Lal Bhowmick, counsel of the defendant, told the Dhaka Tribune that the accused teacher has been freed, on Tuesday, after securing six months’ bail from the High Court.

Chittagong University Chhatra League unit former executive member Md Ifterkhar Uddin Ayaz filed a case against Sociology Department's Assistant Professor Maidul Islam, under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ACT, with Hathazari police on July 23.
On September 25, the Chittagong University authorities temporarily suspended Maidul in accordance with the rules of the university. Maidul was then sent to jail.
