An arrest warrant has been issued for Barrister Mainul Hosein after a defamation case was filed against him in Jessore.

Jessore Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Chairman Laiju Zaman filed a defamation case of Tk9 crore with the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Akram Hossain, around 10:30 am, on Sunday.

The case’s lawyer, Idris Ali, said the judge has ordered an arrest warrant for Barrister Mainul Hosein.

He said: "By verbally abusing journalist Masuda Bhatti on live television, he has insulted the female community of Bangladesh.

"That is why, the case's plaintiff feels disrespected and enraged—as a female leader. Thus, she has filed a defamation case of Tk9 crore against him, resulting in an arrest warrant issued by the judge."

The plaintiff Laiju Zaman told the Dhaka Tribune, she filed the case demanding justice, against Barrister Mainul, so that no one ever dares to dishonour a woman.

She expects Barrister Mainul will be brought to Jessore for a trial.

Currently, Mainul is facing several defamation cases after calling journalist Masuda Bhatti “characterless” on a talk show that aired live on a private TV channel, on October 16.

Mainul’s verbal attack on Masuda started right after she said that many were labelling him the Jamaat-e-Islami representative of Jatiya Oikya Front – as he recently attended an Islami Chhatra Shibir program – and asked whether it was true.
