Chief prosecutor of the August 21 grenade attack case Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman has expressed his satisfaction with the verdict delivered by the court.

The prosecution team will analyze the verdict and provide further reaction later, he said. "If necessary, we will take it up to a higher court."

Speedy Trial Tribunal 1 delivered the verdict around 12:20pm on Wednesday, in which former state minister Lutfozzaman Babar, and 18 others, have been sentenced to death.

Tarique Rahman, and 18 others, hasve been sentenced to life imprisonment. Eleven others have been sentenced to various jail terms of various durations.

"We [the prosecution team] managed to prove all allegations against the accused, beyond a doubt," the chief prosecutor told reporters after the verdict was delivered. "The court mentioned it in their statement.”

He added: "The grenade attack was launched to remove the then-opposition leader Sheikh Hasina from her position as the Awami League president— in the same manner as Father of the National Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and his family, were assassinated in 1975."

While analyzing the statements, the court mentioned the names of 12 places all across the country where the plan, to carry out the grenade attack, was hatched, Rezaur said.

"These 12 places include BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's political office Hawa Bhaban, and BNP Vice-Chairman Abdus Salam Pintu's Dhanmondi residence," he said.
