Detectives arrested Shahidul Alam at his Dhanmondi residence on August 5

A Dhaka court has rejected the bail petition filed by renowned photographer Shahidul Alam in an ICT Act case.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, the High Court ordered the lower court concerned to dispose of the photojournalist’s bail plea by Tuesday (today).

On September 5, the High Court ordered the authorities concerned to provide Shahidul Alam with first division facilities in jail.

Earlier, on August 5, Shahidul Alam was picked up from his residence. He was subsequently arrested on charges of using electronic media to instigate disorder in the country—and spreading fabricated information and rumours via social media, on August 6.

Shahidul was sent to jail on August 12.
