The High Court has asked the government to return the passport of Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury for six months.

The High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice BhishmadevChakrabortty passed the order after hearing a petition on Tuesday, reports UNB.

Advocate Fazlur Rahman said the passport of his client had been seized following a High Court order as the court granted Ariful conditional bail in the murder case of former finance minister, Shah AMS Kibria.

Ariful filed a petition before the court seeking the return of his passport to allow him to attend his daughter’s convocation in London on September 10.

On August 14, a lower court rejected the petition. Later, Ariful filed a petition with the High Court challenging the lower court’s order.

Deputy Attorney General Maniruzzaman Kabir represented the state at Tuesday’s hearing
