A Dhaka court has denied bail to the driver of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan, arrested in a case filed over the death of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College on Airport Road in Dhaka.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mazaharul Haque rejected the bail to driver Jubair Hossain on Sunday after his lawyer submitted a petition before the court.

On July 29, two buses of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan were competing with each other to pick up passengers on Airport Road. One of the buses ploughed through a group of students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College, killing two of them and injuring nine others.

Jubair earlier confessed that reckless competition with the other bus to pick up more passengers caused the accident.

Earlier, on August 13, another Dhaka court denied bail to another driver Shohag Ali and assistants Md Ripon and Enayet Hossain of the transport company in the case.

Following the accident, students from different schools and colleges took to the streets in Dhaka and across the country for several days demanding safe roads and justice for the victims.
