The order for the remand was passed on Monday

A Dhaka court granted a seven-day remand for two drivers and two helpers in a case filed over the killing of two college students in a road accident on Dhaka’s Airport Road on July 29.

The order for the remand was passed on Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate HM Toaha passed the order after Kazi Shoriful Islam Riyad, inspector of Detective Branch (DB) police, and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced the suspects before the court - seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation.

Earlier on July 31, the IO produced the accused before the court and sought 10-days of remand.

On that day the court set August 6 for the hearing of the remand petition.

The accused are Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus drivers Sohagh Ali and Md Jubayer, and helpers Md Ripon and Enayet Hossain.

On July 30, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested them in different parts of the capital in connection with the bus accident.

Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college section of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed as a bus ploughed through students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital, on Airport Road, on July 29.

Diya’s father filed a case with Cantonment police station regarding the accident on the night of July 29.
