Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus driver placed on 7-day remand

Earlier on Tuesday, the same court sent two other drivers and two helpers to jail over Sunday’s accident

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus driver Masum Billah, 30, on 7-day remand in a case filed over the deaths of two college students in Sunday’s bus crash on Airport Road.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate HM Toaha passed the order when Detective Branch Inspector Md Shoriful Islam, the investigation officer of the case, produced the bus driver before the court with a 7-day remand prayer.

Earlier on Tuesday, the same court sent two other drivers and two helpers to jail over Sunday’s accident, when the investigator of the case produced the accused before the court with a 10-day remand prayer. 

The court fixed August 6 for the hearing on the remand petitions. 

The accused are Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus drivers Sohagh Ali and Md Jubayer, and helpers Md Ripon and Enayet Hossain.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three drivers and two assistants of three buses from different parts of Dhaka and Barguna in connection with Sunday’s bus accident.

Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed when a bus ploughed through them in front of the Kurmitola General Hospital on the Airport Road last Sunday.

Diya’s father has filed a case with Cantonment Police Station over the accident.
