The BNP chairperson and former prime minister was sentenced on February 8 in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The Supreme Court on Monday fixed Thursday for its decision on a review petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging a High court order which dismissed her appeal against a five-year prison sentence handed down in a graft case.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain announced the date on Monday.

Advocates AJ Mohammad Ali, Joynal Abedin and Khandaker Mahbub Hossain stood for Khaleda Zia, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state and Advocate Khurshid Alam stood for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The BNP chairperson and former prime minister was sentenced on February 8 in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Following her conviction by the Dhaka Special Court-5, she was sent to old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka.

On May 16, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court order that had granted her bail, while also issuing an order to dispose of her appeal challenging the 8 Feb verdict by the lower court, by July 31.

Khaleda's lawyer filed a petition on June 25 seeking a review of the order.
