Khandker Mahbub Hossain says he is optimistic the BNP chief will get bail
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s counsel has criticized Attorney General Mahabubey Alam for “wasting time” in two cases filed against the former prime minister.
THe bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan was scheduled on Thursday to hear the cases filed for acts of sabotage and defamation, but the court deferred the hearing until 2pm at the attorney general’s request.
Khandker Mahbub Hossain said the hearings on Khaleda Zia’s bail petitions were on number five and six in the cause list and were scheduled to be heard at 11:30am.
“Unfortunately, [the attorney general] is wasting time to prolong Khaleda Zia’s stay in jail,” he said, addressing Alam, reports Bangla Tribune.
Mahbub said they were optimistic about the BNP chief securing bail in the cases.
One of the cases was filed on February 3, 2015, for the arson attack on a bus in Cumilla that left seven people dead during the BNP’s countrywide anti-government agitation.
The other was filed against the former prime minister in Narail on December 24, 2015, for her comments on the number of freedom fighters.
