The High Court yesterday ordered every private airline in the country to explain why they should not be directed to fix a unified fare for all domestic routes.
A High Court bench consisting of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed also asked why the airlines should not be made to stop charging customers for ticket cancellations and other hidden costs.
“Different airlines take different fares on the same route alongside other hidden charges,” said barrister Badruddoza Badal, who filed the writ petition jointly with Md Shahidullah Islam Shamim.
“As there is no policy or guideline to monitor the airfares, the airlines set fares according to their will.”
The civil aviation and tourism secretary and the Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh were also told to respond to the rule within four weeks.
