The parents of Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal’s attacker Foyzur Rahman Faizul have been sent to jail after a five days in police remand in Sylhet.
On Thursday, they were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Haridas Kumar, who later ordered them to jail, said case investigating officer and Jalalabad police station OC Shafiqul Islam.
He also said Faizul’s parents gave some information during the questioning. “We are crosschecking the information they provided. But the details cannot be shared now for the sake of the investigation.”
On March 11, Faizul’s father Atiqul Rahman, mother Minara Begum and uncle Fazlur Rahman were brought to court and then taken for remand. Minara was remanded for two days, while the other two were remanded for five days.
After the remand, Minara was also sent to jail via the court on Tuesday before Atiqul and Fazlur.
Faizul himself was remanded for 10 days on March 8. Five days later, his brother Enamul Hasan was remanded for eight days. Their interrogation is still in progress.
Zafar Iqbal returns to Dhaka
Meanwhile, noted author and academician Zafar Iqbal went to Dhaka on Thursday, a day after coming back to home in Sylhet.
He took on a flight to Dhaka at 1:25pm at Sylhet Osmani International Airport. His wife and daughter were also reportedly accompanying him.
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology teacher had returned home from the capital Wednesday afternoon, after undergong treatment for 11 days and making a full recovery at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
He was taken to CMH on March 3 evening, several hours after Zafar Iqbal was stabbed in the back of his head with a knife by Faizul during a program at the Mukta Mancha on SUST campus.
Faizul was immediately apprehended by the students and later handed over to police.
