A Thakurgaon court on Sunday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his neighbour in Baliadangi upazila in 2012.
The convict, Abdul Khalek, 38, of Baliadangi’s Mechoni village, was also fined Tk 10,000, in default of which he will suffer three months more rigorous imprisonment.
Thakurgaon Additional District and Sessions Judge Haidar Ali handed delivered the verdict after examining all the evidence and witnesses statements.
According to prosecution, there was a long standing dispute between Khalek and his neighbour Shah Alam over ownership of land.
Following the dispute, Khalek had stabbed Alam's father Abdul Haque when he was asleep on August 9, 2012 and fled, leaving him critically injured. Haque died at a hospital later that day.
Afterwards, Alam had filed the murder case against Khalek.
