Khaleda’s bail plea: High Court sets March 11 for issuing order
The High Court has set March 11 as the date it will pass an order on the petition seeking bail for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim on Thursday fixed the date. Khaleda’s counsel, advocate Zainul Abedin, said: “We have mentioned the matter relating to Khaleda’s bail before the court in the morning. The court said that it will pass an order on the bail petition after getting documents.” On February 22, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia filed a petition with the High Court seeking bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Barrister Nowshad Jamir and Barrister Kaiser Kamal, on behalf of the BNP chief, submitted the 880-page bail petition showing 31 grounds for granting her bail. On February 8, the Dhaka Special Court 5 convicted the former prime minister and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was then sent to the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in the city.
