Khulna court orders reinvestigation into eye-gouging incident
A Khulna court has ordered the reinvestigation of an incident where a man's eyes were allegedly gouged out by police. Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahidul Islam passed the order on Tuesday, asking the deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) to reinvestigate the incident, reports UNB. The court has set March 25 for the next hearing. Earlier, the plaintiff’s lawyer Momenul Islam filed a no-confidence petition with the court on February 15, after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a probe report that found no evidence of crime against the officer-in-charge of Khalishpur police station, also the key accused of the case. The case was filed against 13 people -- OC Nasim Khan, sub-inspectors Russel, Tapash Roy, Morselim Molla, Mizan, Mamun, Nur Islam, assistant sub-inspector Syed Saheb Ali, soldier of Ansar Afsar Ali, lance nayek Abul Hossain, nayek Rezaul, Suma Aktar , a resident of Jessore Road in Khalishpur, and Russel, son of Lutfar Hawladar of Badamtala area, on September 7 in 2017.

Victim Md Shahjalal's mother, a resident of Kaukhali upazila of Pirojpur district, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on August 31, accusing eight policemen, three Ansar members and two other people. According to the complaint, Shahjalal went to his in-law’s house at Khalishpur in Khulna. On the night of July 18, he was picked up from the area and taken to Khalishpur police station.

Later, police demanded Tk 150,000 from his family for his release, but Shahjalal’s family failed to come up with the money. On the next day, Shahjalal’s family members found him at Khulna Medical College Hospital with his eyes gouged out. Shahjalal said the policemen gouged out his eyes with a screwdriver after taking him to a remote place and left him at the hospital.

On the other hand, police filed a snatching case with Khalispur Police Station and showed Shajahan as arrested in that case.
