The High Court has issued a rule seeking explanation as to why the reappointment of Prof Farzana Islam as vice-chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) will not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Salim issued the rule on Monday.
The secretary of the Education Ministry's Secondary and Higher Secondary Directorate, the JU VC and pro-VC, and the deputy secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Department Zenat Rehana were asked to respond to the rule within one week.

On February 18, Prof Farzana Islam was appointed JU VC for second term.
Advocate Shahdeen Malik filed a writ challenging her reappointment on Sunday on behalf of former JU VC Sharif Enamul Kabir and its Drama Department teacher Prof Lutfar Rahman.
Farzana had become the first woman to hold the top post in a public university in Bangladesh when she was appointed as the 18th JU VC on March 2, 2014.
