ACC to oppose Khaleda’s bail plea

Update : 12 Feb 2018, 02:41 AM
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan has stated that the anti-graft body will contest any bail petition made by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The ACC lawyer made the disclosure while speaking to reporters at the Annex Building of the Supreme Court on Sunday. Responding to a query on whether the ACC is seeking to file a petition for extending Khaleda’s sentence, Khurshid Alam said: “We have resquested for a copy of the graft case verdict from the court, and a decision regarding the matter will be made after getting the copy.” He added that the ACC submitted a request seeking a copy of the verdict on Sunday. Commenting on the matter, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the correspondent: “ACC filed the case, so that only they can file an appeal seeking to extend Khaleda Zia’s sentence.” He further said if the ACC decides not to file an appeal, the government will decide the next course of action later. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia landed in jail after a Dhaka court found her guilty in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Thursday. This article was first published on banglatribune.com
