The High Court on Monday granted interim bail to BNP Joint Secretary General Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon in three cases filed over vandalizing a prison van and attacking police in High Court Mazargate area on January 30.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the bail order following a petition filed by Khokon.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Sanjid Siddiqui stood for the BNP leader, who is also the general secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
On January 31, police filed two cases with Shahbagh Police Station and one with Ramna Police Station against the BNP leader over vandalizing a prison van and attacking police when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was returning from a makeshift court after appearing before it for the Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
Khokon was made an accused in the cases, although from January 26 to February 3, Khokon was abroad in USA. He returned home on Satruday.
Earlier, following a writ petition filed by Khokon's wife Akhteruzzaman Atia, Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed asked police not to arrest or harass him upon his return from the USA.
