The High Court has fixed August 22 for delivering the verdict in the death references and appeals of 26 death-row convicts in two cases filed over Narayanganj seven-murder. The bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam fixed the new date on Sunday. The bench was scheduled to give the verdict in the case today. Earlier on May 7, the paper book and all documents related to the murder cases were sent to the High Court. A court of Narayanganj on January 16 sentenced 26 people, including three sacked Rab officials and ex-city councillor Nur Hossain, to death in the two cases filed over the sensational seven-murder incident. The court simultaneously sentenced nine others to different terms in jail finding their involvement in the gruesome murders which sparked a nationwide anger. Of the convicts, nine are still at large. Narayanganj City Corporation councilor Nazrul Islam along with his three companions and driver were kidnapped allegedly by a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11 on April 27 in 2014. Senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver Ibrahim were also picked up by the same team after they witnessed the abduction of Nazrul and his associates. All the seven bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river three days after their abduction. Later, Nazrul Islam’s widow Selina Islam Beauty filed a case over the incident while Advocate Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law filed another case.
