Several former employees of Citycell have sued the private mobile operator for not paying their dues.
Citycell Employees Union chief Ashraful Karim said five ex-employees filed the case with the labour court against Citycell Director and former foreign minister Morshed Khan, and Mehbub Chowdhury, chief executive officer of the company.
The mobile operator had not responded to a legal notice served by the former employees, Ashraful added.
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim had said it was Citycell’s responsibility to clear the dues of its employees.
The company had 430 permanent staff when it was shut down last October after it failed to pay government dues of Tk477 crore.
Most of the employees had remained unpaid for a long period, some for as much as 14 months.
Later, the operator got permission to relaunch its operation through a court order. However, the company did not continue its operation.
