3 muggers to die for killing shoe factory worker
A Dhaka court has sentenced three muggers to death in a case filed over the murder of a shoe factory worker in 2009. Dhaka Environment Appeal Tribunal Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury handed down the verdict on Thursday. The convicts are Md Jony 26, Hasan alias Kalu, 20, and Monir Hossain. Of them, Jony is in jail while the others are on the run. The court also fined the convicts Tk10,000 each. A total of 14 prosecution witnesses testified before the court during the trial proceeding in the case. The muggers slit Alamgir Hossain’s throat and killed him on New Shampur High School road while he was returning home from his workplace on August 13, 2009. The convicts killed Alamgir when he refused to give them his valuables. Later, Alamgir’s wife Laila Aktar filed a murder case with Kadomtali police station. On November 22, 2009, Kadomtali police submitted a charge sheet against the three.
