The BNP has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision that declared illegal the 16th Amendment to the constitution which had earlier empowered the House to impeach the apex court judges.
“We consider the verdict as a victory for Bangladeshi people,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said while briefing the media at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters in Dhaka on Monday, hours after the top court’s decision.
He said the apex court’s decision halted the government’s plot to grab the judiciary.
