Mushfiqur Rahim’s father receives anticipatory bail in murder case
A High Court bench on June 5 granted Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim’s father anticipatory bail in a murder case. The bench of Justice Obaidul Hasan and Krishna Debnath issued the bail order in favour of Mahbub Hamid Tara in the case filed against him on May 16. The case is in connection with the killing of Bogra teenager Mashuk Ferdous, confirmed Bogra Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent (media) of Police Sonaton Chakrobarty. Mashuk’s father, Emdadul Haq, filed the case with Bogra Sadar police station, accusing Mahbub, his brother Mejbah-ul-Hamid, a local Awami League municipality councillor, and 14 others. Yet, the police official said, according to Mahbub’s bail condition, he has to surrender before the trial court after the bail period ends. In the case statement, the plaintiff alleged that Mahbub was involved in the killing of his son over a previous enmity about a managing position in the committee of Matidali High School in Bogra town. Mashuk’s father Emdad also said a teenage neighbour, Mohammad Nayeem, and Anik took Mashuk, a student of SOS Hermann Gmeiner College in Bogra, out in the Matidali area around 8:30pm on May 13, as planned by Mahbub, Mejbah and their aides two days ago. Later, Mashuk was found lying near his home with grievous head injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead the same night.

According to Bogra police, Nayeem confessed to killing Mashuk following a quarrel over a cricket match after being arrested recently. He has been sent to Juvenile Correctional Centre in Jessore. After the murder, Mahbub claimed that he had no rivalry with Emdad, an executive member of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (the Hasanul Haq Inu-led faction), and condemned the incident, demanding punishment of the killers.
