Legal notice served to block Afsan Chowdhury's Facebook ID

Update : 12 Jun 2017, 07:12 PM
A legal notice has been served to block the Facebook account of senior journalist and Brac University teacher Afsan Chowdhury. Supreme Court lawyer SM Julfikar Ali Julu, on behalf of Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury, sent the legal notice to the officials concerned at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday afternoon by fax and registered post. Earlier on June 6, the retired army officer sued Afsan Chowdhury for defamation under the ICT Act for one of his Facebook posts. The legal notice sought to block the Facebook ID run in the name of Afsan within 48 hours, alleging it of making various slanderous and instigating posts and comments against Masud Uddin Chowdhury since the filling of the defamation case. The posts and comments also involve contempt of court, it added.
