Couple gets life for killing RAB official
A Barisal court has sentenced a couple to life-term imprisonment for killing a Rapid Action Battalion official. Rafikul Islam, judge of the tribunal for preventing crime against public safety, gave the verdict on Thursday. The court fined Bimol Chandra Gharami and his wife Monika Gharami Tk10,000 each; in default, they will have to serve two more months in jail. Amol Chandra Gharami, a sub-inspector of police serving in RAB 11 under deputation, was murdered by his younger brother Bimol and his wife Monika over a land dispute on April 11, 2011. While giving a brief history of the case, Bench Clerk of the court Asgor Hossain said the couple invited Amol for dinner and poisoned him while he was visiting his village home. Amol’s wife Dipali Datta, also a staff nurse at Tangail General Hospital, lodged a case with Mehendiganj police station on April 24, 2011. Investigation officer Masudur Rahman submitted the charge sheet against the accused couple on September 5, 2013.
