A Khulna court sentenced five to life imprisonment for the murder of a boy from Jessore.
The verdict was announced by the Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge MA Rob Hawladar on Thursday afternoon.
The five convicted are - Dabir Uddin, Mahir Uddin, Kahir Uddin, Jahir Uddin and Kabir Uddin, the latter is on the run.
Two more are underage and have been transferred to a juvenile court in Jessore to be tried.
On December 11, 2013, the victim Maruf was bludgeoned to death with sticks and cricket bats in Keshabpur's Shantola area.
Maruf’s uncle Rajab Ali filed a murder case against seven people with Keshabpur police station on December 13, 2013.
After an investigation, Keshabpur Sub-Inspector Md Nasir Uddin submitted a charge sheet against the seven accused in the case.
Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Enamul Haque said: “Maruf was murdered over a combination of love affair and land disputes.”
The land dispute was proven as the main motive behind this murder during the court hearings.
The trial began at a Jessore Judge court and the case was moved to Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal for a fast remedy.
