A Dhaka court has granted one-month bail to cricketer Arafat Sunny in a case filed under the Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order on Thursday asking Sunny to settle the issue with plaintiff Nasrin Sultana.
The court also said it would cancel the bail if Sunny failed to come up with a solution by April 10.
Nasrin filed the case against Sunny and his mother on February 1. A total of three cases have been filed against the duo under the same Act.
According to the case statement, Sunny married Nasrin on December 4, 2014 with an endowment of Tk5.1 lakh at Grand Prince Hotel Ltd in Mirpur 1. Since then, the couple was living at a rented house in Katasur area.
After six months, Sunny and his mother allegedly demanded a dowry of Tk20 lakh on July 29, 2015. Nasrin also claimed that Arafat had deserted her after torturing her.
Nasrin also claimed that she had been assaulted by Sunny’s mother and some others, who intercepted her on a road near Mohammadpur police station on January 22.
Sunny was arrested from his Aminbazar residence on January 5.
