Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmood has warned that cases will be filed against government officials who are involved in bribe scams in the process of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) registration.
ACC chairman made the statement after the Ministry of Education released an order to enlist teachers and employees under the new MPO registrations process.
ACC Director (Public Relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
Chairman of the commission Iqbal Mahmood said: “The commission will not tolerate any kind of corruption, irregularities, or harassment in the MPO registration of teachers and employees.
“Officials of the divisional and district offices involved in the MPO registration will be closely monitored by the ACC intelligence unit.”
He said that unqualified teachers cannot be enrolled in the MPO by paying bribes. Also, taking bribes by the government officials cannot be justified by recruiting any qualified teacher or employee.
Iqbal Mahmood further said, “These activities should be monitored in such a way that there is no scope for giving or receiving bribes. If necessary, the accused will have to be caught in the act by staging situations.”
ACC has learned that dishonest officials and employees of some Upazila Education Offices, District Education Offices, and Regional Education Offices are unethically demanding money in the name of examining documents.
The intelligence division of the commission has already informed the commission about these allegations, the chairman mentioned.
In this case, the implementation of anti-corruption law must be ensured. Everyone should remember that both giving and taking bribes are criminal offenses. Anyone involved in this crime will be brought to book under the law.
