The ACC team also wants to know what action has been taken in the specific areas that were earlier identified as corrupt by the ACC
900 allegedly corrupt officials of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Ltd were transferred, following the recommendation of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC).
An ACC enforcement team led by ACC Assistant Director Afroza Haque Khan and Deputy Assistant Director Md Shihab Salam, conducted drives against Titas officers and employees at their corporate office yesterday, said ACC media spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
He said the ACC team acted upon various allegations, including system loss five times in a year, and the setting up of new illegal gas connections by its officers and employees.
The ACC team also wants to know what action has been taken in the specific areas that were earlier identified as corrupt by the ACC.
Titas Gas authorities said that in accordance with the ACC's recommendations, 900 officers and employees have already been transferred.
However, the ACC enforcement team has found evidence that some of the influential officers and employees who had been transferred were trying to get back to their former position with the help of higher authorities.
In this regard, the national anti-corruption body urged Titas authorities to take drastic measures to curb the transfer scam.
Titas Gas authorities informed the ACC team that after their (ACC) inspection, Titas has fined the Hotel Golden Tulip Tk11 lakh and has permanently disconnected the illegal gas connection to the hotel.
The company has also taken various steps to collect unpaid money which amounts to over Tk4 thousand crore.
