The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has raided the office of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco) over allegation of embezzling money through purchasing substandard prepaid electric metres.
An ACC team, led by its Assistant Director MdSaiduzzaman and Deputy Director Afanan Jannat, conducted the drive,Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the national anti-graft body, said on Monday, reports UNB.
Earlier, the ACC team visited a house in Manipur area in the city, where a prepaid metre reportedly caught fire, and talked to locals, Pranab said, adding that for further investigation, the team raided the Desco office.
The Desco authorities told the ACC team that they conducted an inquiry into the allegation and the purchased metres appeared to be substandard ones as per the initial probe, Pranab said.
The ACC team also collected information about the tender for purchasing 122,220 prepaid metres, he said.
