FR Tower fire: 3 sent to jail in design forgery case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed two cases against 23 people for their alleged involvement in design forgery and illegally extending FR Tower beyond the permitted number of floors

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent three accused to jail in a case against 23 people over alleged forgery in the design of FR Tower, a high-rise in the capital’s Banani area.

The accused are: lessee of the land Syed Md Hossain Imam Faruque and former Rajuk officials Md Aurangzeb Siddique Nannu and Muhammad Shaokat Ali, reports BSS.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayesh passed the order after the trio surrendered before his court and pleaded for bail.

The High Court on November 5 had scrapped their bails and asked them to surrender in lower court within seven days.

Twenty-seven people were killed and 70 others were injured in a devastating fire that engulfed the building on March 28.

The matter of design forgery came into light as officials concerned were probing the fire incident.
