Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud, said that human rights get violated because of corruption. Those who plunder people’s  money are violating human rights.

ACC chairman made the remarks during a meeting with a seven-member delegation led by National Human Rights Commission chairman Nashima Begum at its headquarters on Monday.

Speaking to members of the Human Rights Commission, Iqbal Mahmood said:“As an institution you will also notice whether the ACC is violating human rights. Though, without proper coordination, it is difficult to bring down corruption.  Thus, we need to work together to ensure good governance everywhere.”

He said the commission would not exempt anyone involved in corruption. Corrupt people should be punished according to the law.

He added that a Memorandum of Understanding could be signed to strengthen the institutional relations between the ACC, and the Human Rights Commission as the goals of both organizations are almost identical.

Nashima Begum, chairman of the National Human Rights Commission told reporters at ACC office that the persons who commit corruption are basically taking away someone else’s right.

Responding to a question, Nashima Begum said, “There are many NGOs whose names are the same like National Human Rights Commission. The work of NGOs, and State Human Rights Commission are miles apart from each other, so please be careful, and do not get misled by all those so called human rights NGOs.”

She also said that if anyone is doing wrong in the name of Human Rights Commission then action will be taken against them.

Human Rights Commission Member Kamal Uddin Ahmed, and NamitaHaldar were present at the meeting.
