A Kanungo (land officer) of the capital’s Lalbagh revenue circle was suspended after being found guilty of corruption by a visiting Revenue Secretary on Monday.
Md Maksudur Rahman, revenue secretary, paid a sudden visit to Lalbagh Revenue Circle office on May 29 around 11am, and instantly made this decision after finding the Kanungo, HM Mezbah Uddin guilty, reports UNB.
During the visit, the secretary observed a suspicious two minute-long conversation between Kanungo Mezbah and a person named “Matador Arif” (as saved in Mezbah's phone contact list) over Mezbah Uddin's personal mobile phone, regarding illegal transactions.
Based on secretary's assumption, Matador Arif was immediately contacted from the Kanungo's phone and thus the assumption proved right.
According to the regulation of the government employee (discipline and appeal) Rule 12, 2018- Kanungo HM Mezbah Uddin was immediately suspended from service.
Apart from this, the process of taking departmental arrangements against him will start soon.
Along with the Revenue Secretary, the visiting team also included additional secretary (development) Abdul Haque, personal secretary of revenue secretary Md Daulatuzzaman Khan and the assistant commissioner of the concerned revenue circle.
In order to make the land management system clear, hassle free and public-friendly along with preventing corruption in land offices- the officers of Land Ministry have started visiting the land offices all over the country, under the orders of Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury.
The officers are scheduled to submit their visit reports on regular basis to the Ministry of Land.
