The LGED engineer was detained in his workplace at around 3pm by a team led by Nasimi Anwar, one of the directors of ACC

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested a government engineer in Narayanganj yesterday for allegedly taking a Tk50 lakh bribe from a contractor.

Ehtashamul Haque, a Deputy Assistant Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), was caught red-handed accepting the bribe as a favour to ensure the contractor was chosen for a tender, ACC officials told UNB.

The LGED engineer was detained in his workplace at around 3pm by a team led by Nasimi Anwar, one of the directors of ACC.

ACC public relation officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said the anti-graft body was responding to a complaint filed by Mozammel Haque, a contractor of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) office at Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj.

A case has been filed against the engineer.
