The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has interrogated Sherpur-1 Awami League MP and a Whip in Parliament Md Atiur Rahman Atik over allegations of illegally acquired property.
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said Atik's interrogation began around 10am on Tuesday.
On April 5, ACC sent a letter to Atik asking him to appear before it on April 17 (today) for interrogation.
According to the allegation, the MP owns a luxurious apartment, 30 acres of land, purchased two plots in Bashundhara and Banasree, and also purchased two flats in Dhanmondi and Gulshan areas of Dhaka.
After the interrogation by ACC, Atik claimed that he was innocent, adding that someone has brought out the allegation against him for politically harassing him.
When asked about the matter, ACC Secretary Dr Md Shamshul Arefin told Dhaka Tribune: "ACC doesn't investigate anyone without valid allegation. When we [ACC] are notified of any allegation, we investigate the matter carefully. We don't investigate any false allegation.
“We got the allegation against Atik three years ago. The matter reached to the High Court too. We launched an investigation against Atik, after getting a directive from the High Court.”
