The Anti-Corruption Commission has asked the authorities of the Export Promotion Bureau to install CCTV cameras in the office to stop corruption.
ACC Director Kazi Shafiqul Alam made this suggestion to EPB Vice-Chairman Bijoy Bhattacharjee while discussing alleged corruption in EPB office at Karwan Bazar in the capital.
He also requested the vice-chairman to keep the data of CCTV footage for at least up to 30 days. ACC Assistant Director (Public Relations) Pranab Kumar confirmed this to Dhaka Tribune.
A person called the ACC through its hotline (106) on Thursday morning about the practice of bribery at EPB office. He also mentioned names of several EPB officials with their designation, said an ACC press release.
“They receive bribes in broad daylight. It is impossible for service receivers to trade after filing cases against the EPB officials,” the complainant reportedly said.
After receiving the phone call, the ACC receiver informed the director general (administration). The director general ordered Director (acting) of the Striking Force Kazi Shafiqul Alam for inspection.
Shafiqul went to the EPB office with other ACC officials and members of the commission's armed police unit.
The ACC also asked for departmental action against involved officials.
