Transparency International Bangladesh published a research paper on Wednesday detailing their investigation into good governance in the Water Development Board.
The paper titled "Climate Finance and Governance in Project Implementation: The Case of Bangladesh Water Development Board" was unveiled in front of the media at the Dhanmondi office of the watchdog.
The findings were grim, with four out of six monitored WDB projects being influenced by government officials, Awami League leaders and members. Furthermore, 92% of local communities were not informed of WDB projects which affected their lives.
Dr Iftekharuzzaman, chief of TIB, lamented the utter lack of accountability in the Water Development Board.
The report findings stated the governance was inadequate and insufficient, information is not disclosed upon demand and community approach was shunned in favour of corruption and malpractice.
