Warehouse officer gobbles up 42,000kg rice

Police are looking for the officer-in-charge of a government rice warehouse in Golapbagh in Gaibandha for embezzling 42 tonnes of rice. Gobindaganj Upazila Food Inspector Md Ahad Ali filed the case around 11:30pm Thursday. Upazila nirbahi officer Md Abdul Hannan said that he had discovered the anomalies during a surprise visit to the godown on Thursday afternoon and later sealed it off. He also asked the food inspector to take legal action against the officer on-duty, Abdullah, who is now on the run. Inspector Ahad said that he had informed higher authorities about the matter and recommended departmental action against Abdullah. Confirming about the filing of the case, OC Md Mozibur Rahman said that they were investigating the matter and hoped that the accused could be arrested soon.
