The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against MA Mannan, the suspended mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) and an adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, for his alleged involvement into embezzling Tk49,01,848 lakh from a GCC fund.
Mohammed Shamsul Alam, deputy director of ACC, filed the case with Joydebpur police station on Monday.
The then account officer of Gazipur City Corporation Mohammed Golam Kibria was also accused in the case along with Mannan, Khandoker Rezaul Hasan Reza, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur police, said.
They were charged for embezzling the said amount from the Poor and Relief Fund of the city corporation.
According to the case documents, Mannan and Kibria withdrew the money from the fund through 999 fake vouchers from August 18, 2013 to February 2, 2015.
MA Mannan was arrested on April 15 this year for second time from Kaliakair in two cases filed over vandalism and arson.
He was arrested from Dhaka’s Uttara on February 11 last year for the first time for his suspected involvement in an arson attack.
He was released on a High Court bail on March 2 this year.
