Maintenance work of SEA-ME-WE 4 submarine cable and technical glitches in international terrestrial cable links have severely affected the internet speed in Bangladesh

The internet speed across Bangladesh will be slower than normal for the next three days due to the maintenance work of SEA-ME-WE 4, the high-speed submarine cable Bangladesh is connected to.

The repair work, which is underway, has already affected the internet speed around the country, reports Bangla Tribune citing several sources.

In addition, the international terrestrial cable (ITC) links with India has been down since Sunday afternoon, which has severely affected broadband internet across the country.

The only backup Bangladesh has right now is the SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable, said Emdadul Haque, secretary of Internet Service Providers Association Bangladesh.

“Due to some technical glitches, the six ITC links with India that we have in Benapole have been down. The repair work is in progress, so we hope the internet speed will get better soon,” he added.

He said broadband users will be the most affected by this situation. “Mobile internet users will not face much disruption.”
