2,664 houses burnt to ashes in Rohingya camp fire

The investigation committee of the district administration disclosed the number of families affected by the fire incident in Ukhiya's Balukhali Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar and the extent of the damages.

According to the investigation report handed over to the deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar around 4:30pm on Sunday, 15,926 Rohingyas from 3,011 families were affected by the fire incident at Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar on March 5. 

A total of 2,664 houses were completely burnt and 141 houses were partially burnt. 

Besides, 2,766 offices, 155 wash facilities, bamboo stairs and rope protection, 762 FCNs, 1,082 smart cards were burnt. At the same time, 212 people were injured.

On March 5, a massive fire broke out at a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila.

The fire spread to the No. 9 and 10 refugee camps. 

The fire service brought the fire under control after three hours around 6pm. The district administration of Cox's Bazar formed a seven-member investigation committee to probe the incident. 

Led by Additional District Magistrate of Cox's Bazar Abu Sufian, the committee had representatives from refugee commission, APBn police, district police and fire service.
