Jhenaidah man arrested for hurting religious sentiments

He admitted to making the remarks voluntarily, say police

Police have arrested a man reportedly for making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad PBUH on Facebook.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell arrested Mehedi Hassan, hailing from Jhenaidah’s Harinakunda Upazila, from Dhaka on Saturday evening.

On September 17, Mehedi Hassan made derogatory remarks regarding Prophet PBUH in a Facebook comment, Superintendent of Police Ashikur Rahman told the media on Sunday.

He wrote the comment on the Facebook post of one Saidur Rahman, a resident of Harinakunda. The comment angered the locals and Harinakunda Upazila Imam Parishad General Secretary Mowlana Toiyebur Rahman filed a case over the matter.

After the case was filed, the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell arrested Mehedi, a private job holder in Dhaka with the help of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes unit.

Police said that Mehedi admitted to making the remarks voluntarily.
