Minister: Madhukhali-Magura rail project to miss deadline

The project will cost Tk878 crore

The railway project from Madhukhali to Magura via the Kamarkhali Broad Gauge will not be completed within deadline, says Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan.

Even though the deadline will be extended, the project cost will remain unchanged, he said on Tuesday.

“However, the construction company is asking to increase the costing and the government might take that into consideration,” he added.

He made the announcement while speaking to the media during his visit to the under-construction Kamarkhali Railway Station.

“The four-year term project was undertaken in 2018 and it was supposed to be complete by November this year,” the minister said.

“However, the work could not be started on time due to several complications related to land procurement, the condition of the area, and the Covid-19 pandemic,” he added.
