Hybrid power plant to be set up at Monpura

A total of 20,483 consumers in the island will get electricity from the power plant

A 3MW solar-battery, diesel-based hybrid power plant will be set up in Monpura upazila of Bhola.

An agreement has been signed between the West Zone Power Distribution Company and the Western Monpura Solar Power Limited at Bidyut Bhaban on Monday.

Power Secretary Md Habibur Rahman was the chief guest at the programme.

He said: “The government is cooperating in various ways in renewable energy’s expansion. The implementation of the government’s commitment to transition to green energy is also encouraging the expansion of renewable energy.”

This power plant at Monpura is different in many ways. It will operate on battery and diesel along with solar. However, not more than 10% can be produced from diesel, he added.

According to the power secretary, it would be easy to deal with the current situation if we had more renewable energy sources.

Those familiar with the matter hope that a total of 20,483 customers of Monpura will get electricity facility at government price from the 20-year term power plant. Besides, it will boost the industrialization and tourism in the island.
