Depot fire: 1 burn unit patient tests positive for Covid

He has been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital

One of the victims of the deadly fire at BM Container Depot in Chittagong’s Sitakunda has tested positive for Covid-19.

Khaledur Rahman, with 12% burn injuries, has been shifted to the Covid and Burn unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Resident Surgeon Dr SM Ayub Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

He was previously being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Meanwhile, three more victims of the massive fire were brought to the institute for better treatment.

Enamul, 25, and Badruzzaman Rubel, 18, Md Sumon, 34 were rushed to the facility in the early hours of Tuesday.

On Monday, Professor Abul Kalam, director of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute said around 75% of the patients, who were injured in the depot fire are in critical condition.

As many as 19 people are currently undergoing treatment at the facility.

Four of the injured patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are in very critical condition while eight are in critical condition.

At least 450 people were injured in the fire that started on Saturday night.
