Depot fire: Owners to provide 10L compensation for families of deceased
The Ministry of Labor and Employment also announced Tk2 lakh compensation for the victims
The owners of BM Container Depot have announced to give Tk10 lakh in compensation to the families of each person killed in the fire at the depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong.
Besides, Tk6 lakh will be provided for critically injured people while others will get Tk4 lakh in compensation, said a press release on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labor and Employment announced to give Tk2 lakh in compensation to the families of each person killed in the fire.
The ministry will also provide Tk50,000 compensation for the treatment of the injured on an emergency basis under the Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation fund, said State Minister Begum Monnujan Sufian on Sunday.
Earlier, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraf Uddin told the media that Tk50,000 will be given to the families of the deceased while each injured would receive Tk20,000.
The fire, which broke out at the depot late on Saturday, has so far killed 45 people and injured over 450.
At least five firefighters had died while trying to douse the flames, Fire Service and Civil Defence chief Brig Gen Md Main Uddin said.
