DGHS: 15 dengue cases reported in 24 hours

34 dengue patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals across the country

Fifteen new dengue patients have been hospitalised in the country in 24 hours till Monday morning, health authorities said.

Fourteen of the new patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining one was admitted to a hospital outside the capital.

A total of 105 dengue patients including 95 in Dhaka division alone died in 2021.

Some 34 dengue patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the country as of Monday.

Of them, 33 are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while remaining one at a hospital outside Dhaka.

This year, some 264 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue so far and 230 of them have left hospitals after recovery, said the DGHS.

Dengue fever was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000, claiming 93 lives that year. In the years that followed, the country learned to deal with the disease much better.

The fatalities had almost fallen to zero at one stage, before surging again in 2018, leading to the severe outbreak the following year.

The year 2019 saw one of the biggest breakout of the mosquito-borne disease. 

The official death toll from dengue fever stood at 148 until Dec 29, 2019, whereas the unofficial death figure was reported to be over 200. A total of 101,334 people were hospitalized throughout the country.
